In the current SBP annual report (Sustainable Biomass Program), waldkontor was reported on because we were the first company to develop a risk management system for Germany. This allows us to identify uncertified biomass as “SBP-compliant”.
SBP is a certification program for woody biomass used in energy production for Denmark. The certificate exists primarily so that users of biomass can prove that it has been sourced both legally and sustainably. Furthermore, the energy producers receive information to be able to draw up energy and carbon balances and to show the CO2 footprint per MWh. This provides concrete figures to show the energy and carbon savings achieved by burning biomass.
Forest-level certification schemes, such as PEFC, can only be used to a limited extent for woody biomass. These systems do not cover all the above-mentioned requirements that end-users of biomass must meet in the course of energy production.
More info about us, about biomass and about certifications can be read here.
