In July, waldkontor was the first German company to ship 35,000 cubic meters of spruce wood from Germany to China using break-bulk carriers. We have had experience in European transport for years, but until now the wood to Asia has usually been transported in containers.
So this time by full shipload. The Glorious Kauri – that’s the name of the ship – is a test for us. The logistical planning and coordination is immense, but opening up the transport route and thus new customers in China definitely justifies the effort. The port in Nordenham and the shipper Rhenus Midgard have presented themselves as reliable partners. Not a matter of course, because the technical port and loading equipment for this kind of cargo is rare in Germany.
From today’s perspective, this first project was a success. And the next ship is already planned for mid-September. The delivery of the logs to the port of Nordenham will begin on August 17th, 2020. By the way: We didn’t send the Glorious Kauri to China instead of, but in addition to the containers. The mandatory container shipping continues abruptly all the time.
