The trade of European softwood and hardwood logs to Asia was the only logical continuation of the company’s policy. This is because an existing organisational structure was completed. And now a more worldwide active network for the purchase and sale of European coniferous and hardwood logs has been created at waldkontor. For our partners, this means that they can rely on the entire supply chain – from the European forest directly to the Asian end customer – and find a competitive environment in terms of price, quality and sustainability.
Beech, ash, oak, poplar and pine trunks (in saw and shaving qualities) form the core of the Asian business. The vast majority of these are in northern Germany (Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania), only 25% come from other European countries. For shipment to Asia, the logs are loaded directly in the forest into 40′ containers and transported to the seaport. 90% of the containers are transshipped via the port of Hamburg and shipped to Asia within approx. 30 days transit time.
Whether furniture production, interior finishing or the flooring industry, the Asian market has a strong demand for wood as a raw material. A good reason to be present and visible in order to be able to meet the challenges and needs of the market quickly and in a solution-oriented manner in the future as well.
